The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Mohammed International airport, Lagos Command has arrested two passengers arriving from Sao Paulo, Brazil with 10.40 and 6.25 kilograms of cocaine, respectively.
The airport commander agency, Garba Ahmadu, said the two suspected traffickers identified as Okwubunne Simeon and Aniakar James who were arrested on October 28 concealed the drugs expertly to avoid being detected.
Ahmadu said the concealment was done in eight children duvets which contained seven absorbent towels soaked with cocaine and neatly concealed in tins labelled ‘Schramn’, according to a statement received on Sunday.
He was quoted to have said, “The arrests and seizures are coming at a time when all hands are supposed to be on deck towards curbing the fragile security situation in our country.
“Involvement of people in drugs stands condemnable considering the fact that drug intake is a catalyst that fuels crime.
“If this quantum of drugs had penetrated into society, we can only imagine the multiplier effect of crime rate in this state.”
According to the NDLEA boss, the command also recorded the arrest of 12 suspected drug traffickers, seven males and five females, with a seizure of 15.8kgs of illicit drugs, including cannabis, cocaine and methamphetamine between July and September.
