52 Northern Groups Ask @UN , Others To Back Biafra Agitation

Coalitions of 52 northern groups on Monday called on the global community to intervene in persuading the Nigerian government and United Nations to facilitate the final actualisation of the Biafran dream by the Igbo. While describing as empty and of no effect “threats and promises” by President Muhammadu Buhari, the CNG said “between December 2020 and April 2021, over 970 students were abducted from their schools in the northern part of Nigeria with a substantial number still in captivity and some violently executed.” The spokesperson of CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, raised the views in a communiqué after an emergency meeting in Abuja. According to him, Northern Nigeria has never experienced the present level of exposure to criminals and bandits under the régime of Buhari. Buhari’s Invitation To US Africa Command Headquarters Will Bring Recolonisation – Shehu Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for asking the United States to relocate Africa Command from Germany to the troubled area. The statement that was made available on his Twitter handle on Wednesday states: " The President’s call for world powers military HQ on African soil is an open invitation for recolonisation of Africa. It's easier to tell and get them to come and when they come, it’s impossible to tell and get them to go out. "Over six decades since independence, African countries should purposefully work together to confront & address their security challenges, while honorably seeking foreign technical assistance. The call for the US to relocate its USAfricaCommand HQ to Africa is unconscionable." He said with such a move, other foreign players will follow suit, leading to the military balkanisation of the continent. "Once the US relocates their HQ to Africa, Russia, China, Iran, Saudia, I

Buhari Administration Blames Murtala Mohammed's Regime For Acute Insecurity

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has blamed the insecurity situation in the country on the inability of late General Murtala Muhammed’s regime to carry on with its policy on compulsory free education for citizens born after 1970. Murtala Mohammed, who overthrew Yakubu Gowon’s regime, was Nigeria’s military ruler from July 1975 until when he was assassinated on February 13, 1976.  On Monday, information minister Lai Mohammed says the nation’s current woes could be traced to the failings of the past military junta. He said, “ The fact is that in 1973, we were informed by the lead discussant and that the government of the day they had a retreat and said there must be a national pledge that what is that thing that we must do to ensure that we did not go through another civil war. “The government of that day came out with a decision that what will prevent another civil war is to ensure that anybody born after January 1970 has free and compulsory primary education.” The mini

We cannot afford another civil war in this country, we can`t afford it,” he said. Osinbajo said the political elite must rise up to the challenge by speaking the truth and taking action to address the situation in the country.,” he said. The Vice President said that the elite cou

President Biden is expected to sign an executive order raising federal contractors' minimum wage to $15 an hour, up from $10.95

Two months after his effort to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour ran into the Senate parliamentarian buzz saw, President Joe Biden is set to use his executive powers to hike the pay of hundreds of thousands of federal contract workers. The President is expected to issue an executive order on Tuesday that increases contract workers' hourly minimum wage to $15 in early 2022, up from the current $10.95. It eliminates the tipped minimum wage, now $7.65 an hour, by 2024 and ensures that federal contract workers with disabilities also receive a minimum of $15 an hour. Agencies will need to incorporate the $15 minimum wage in new contract solicitations starting January 30 and to implement the threshold in new contracts by March 30. Agencies must implement the higher wage in existing contracts when they are extended, which often happens annually. The wage will be adjusted yearly based on the increase in inflation.    THE embattled Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, on Monday, raised the alarm that some unnamed persons were planning to release some doctored videos against him. Pantami, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide, Uwa Suleiman, said the move was the next stage of the forces against him. There had been calls for the resignation of the minister after his controversial comments on the activities of terrorists emerged on social media. Although the minister had renounced the comments and insisted that he made them out of immaturity in the past, many Nigerians still insisted that he should resign or be sacked. But on Monday, Pantami through his aide said, “ We are in receipt of credible intelligence that the same forces, who have been championing a well-coordinated and richly funded campaign against Pantami, are now unto the next stage of their diabolic project. “This time round, the forces of evil are shopping for willing partners as we

The lawmaker, who is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Navy, said he was amongst those who screened Pantami in 2019. The lawmaker was reacting to a claim by a former Assistant Director with the DSS, Dennis Amachree, that the secret police screened Pantami before his confirmation as minister in 2019 but the minister sailed through National Assembly screening due to a lot of factors including federal character balancing. When asked whether the DSS sent Pantami’s past extremist views to the National Assembly during his screening in 2019, Gagdi said, “I don’t think it is true that there was (anything) in that report regarding Pantami to the National Assembly, quote me anywhere.” “

Reps may formally debate, call for Pantami’s sack, suspension this week

Indications that the House of Representatives may formally present, debate and call for the suspension or outright sack of the Minister for Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami via a motion became more visible on Sunday. This is as a member of the House, Hon. Ben Rollands Igbakpa, representing the Ethiope Federal Constituency of Delta State stated that entrusting Pantami with the sensitive bio-data of Nigerians was unsafe. Pantami is currently embattled for showing sympathy for insurgents in a series of utterances that had provoked thoughts and attracted widespread condemnations from Nigerians even though the Minister has since shown remorse. It will be recalled that the Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu had through a Point of Privilege raised the matter at the House plenary, Wednesday last week. But his Order which was conventionally not debatable was however “noted” by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila. Elumelu had said: “ Mr Speaker, my privilege border on one of th

Senior Pastor of Awaiting the Coming Of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa, on Thursday told President Muhammadu Buhari that he could not stop the marginalised ethnic nationalities in Nigeria from seeking self-determination. The cleric also stated that the Oduduwa Republic would pave the way for Igbo people to realise their sovereign nation away from Nigeria. Giwa said that Oduduwa Republic and Biafra are beyond the president. He said, “ You can’t stop the freedom of Nigerians who have determined to go their separate ways. This project is beyond the president, army or police. “Oduduwa Republic is here already and it will pave the way for Igbos who have been marginalised for years. Let me advise President Muhammadu Buhari not to waste his energy to stop people’s decisions. “The presidency ought to have admitted failure instead of trying to justify the reason Nigerians should continue to stay together in poverty. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has faulted the continued stay of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The governor made the remarks on Wednesday via his Twitter handle while reacting to the comments said to have been made by Pantami in the past in support of extremist groups. Although the minister has renounced the comments, saying he was a changed person, Governor Wike insisted that it was wrong to allow Pantami to continue with his duties as a minister. According to him, the minister ought to have relinquished his duties but the situation has worsened because the government does not care. The governor stressed that the time when the minister made the comments does not matter, saying they could be described as the germinated seeds that have led to the killing
