Expect more delays in vaccine supplies, WHO tells Nigeria..

  Government had asked all states administering COVID-19 vaccines to stop immediately they have exhausted half of the dosage given to them.  It was learnt that it had become necessary due to a shortage of the AstraZeneca vaccine on the international market caused by a surge in the demand for the vaccine including in India which is experiencing a second wave of COVID-19. Some states like Bauchi, Benue and Ogun had already complied with the directive. Speaking at the press conference, the WHO regional director said Africa had been affected by the happenings in India. She said attempts were being made to find alternatives but this would not happen overnight. NCDC Establishes New COVID-19 Testing Laboratories

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has established five new COVID-19 testing laboratories in the country. This is shown in a tweet on the NDDC official handle.Which said the latest addition brings the number of testing labs for COVID-19 in Nigeria to 58. “We are pleased to announce inclusion of 5 new labs in our Molecular Laboratory Network,”  :NCDC tweet. The agency said the new testing laboratories were set up at the Edo Specialist Hospital, Benin, Edo State; ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi; Rivers Indorama Company Molecular Lab;  State Specialist Hospital, Amachara, Abia and the  University of Abuja, Gwagwalada GX Lab.

WHO: Corona Virus vaccine To Be Available In Mid 2021

the chief scientist of the World Health Organization, Soumya Swaminathan, stated  Widespread vaccination of corona virus could begin in the middle of next year. Russian Millitary Reaveals Tested And Safe corona Virus Vaccine

The ministry of defense Russia says  a “safe” corona virus vaccine has been developed, following clinical trials on  volunteers. The ministry said there were 18 people who participated in the research and were discharged without any “serious adverse events, health complaints, complications or side effects”. The results of the trials “allow us to speak with confidence about the safety and good reliability of the vaccine”. They did not for a fact say if the vaccine was efficient but one of the doctors working on the trials said the volunteers were now protected against the virus. “Their immunity is working well, antibodies are being created, they are protected against the coronavirus,” was reported by Svetlana Volchikhina in a video released by the defense ministry. Cross River State Governor Accused Of Covering Covid19 Cases In The State

The Cross River State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association has withdrawn its services from all medical facilities in the state. Last week, Ikpeme Ikpeme, Chief Medical Director of UCTH had announced that five patients tested positive for COVID-19 in the hospital but the state government accused him of spreading falsehood. This was relayed in a letter addressed to the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, by the state chairman. Two of the samples came from the health workers in the UCTH, Mr Ikpeme said, adding that the workers were making “tremendous progress along the path of recovery”. The NCDC is put on notice that the Cross River State Government has  abandoned her responsibility of contact tracing, treatment and care for the five confirmed cases which may not be unconnected with the delay in publication of the results by NCDC. Madagascar's Capital Confined Again As Cases Spike

Antananarivo returns to containment, two months after the easing of restrictive measures and even the reopening of schools, authorities have again decided to restrict movement in the Malagasy capital due to the spike in coronavirus cases. The measure is expected to continue until July 20. And the conditions are strict: only one person per household has the right to go out on the street from 6 a.m. to noon. Until now, the measure extended until 5 p.m. Accustomed to registering dozens of cases of coronavirus per day, the Malagasy health authority has reported hundreds of cases daily for the past three days, including 216 on Saturday, a record for the country. A total of 1,621 people are currently living with the virus on the island with 31 serious cases, among the 23,000 people tested since the beginning of the pandemic.   Read More
