Disbandment Of SARS Created A Vacuum In Police To Tackle Insecurity – IGP

 Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Usman has said that the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) created a vacuum which is challenging efforts by the Police to tackle insecurity in the country from a position of strength. The acting IGP stated this on Thursday at a presidential briefing organized by the Presidential Communications Team at the statehouse in Abuja. According to him, the aftermath of the EndSARS protest equally dampened the morale of the officers of the force. The IGP also indicated that the police have recorded successes against secessionist groups and criminals in the southeast. He noted that prosecution to ensure justice is served has remained a major challenge because of the ongoing strike by judiciary workers. Acting PoliceNG IG Disbands Special Monitoring Teams In Lagos, Port Harcourt

  Acting Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba has ordered the disbandment of the IGP Monitoring Satellite offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt, Rivers State with immediate effect.    This followed what he described as incessant complaints of harassment and operating beyond their briefs over cases of investigations, Vanguard reports.  Speaking at his maiden meetings with Command Police Commissioners from the 36 states of the country and FCT as well as Zonal-AIGs, the IGP said the IGP Monitoring Unit as a whole will be re-organised.   The IGP Monitoring Teams have indeed been accused of various human rights abuses and gross corruption, just like it was with the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad. 

Vice President ProfOsinbajo Decorates Yobe-born Alkali As Acting IGP .

  Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) on Wednesday decorated the new acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, with his new rank in the State House, Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari who is currently in London had on Tuesday approved the replacement of Mohammed Adamu with Alkali. The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, who disclosed this to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said that the appointment was with immediate effect. Until his appointment, Alkali was DIG, Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID). The new acting IGP was born in 1963 and joined the Nigerian Police Force in March 1988. He has a master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a BA (ED) in Political Science from the University of Maiduguri and Bayero University, Kano respectively.
