Bandits, terrorists different from IPOB, says El-Rufai

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said the way bandits and Boko Haram terrorists operate is different from that of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra led by Nnamdi Kanu. El-Rufai stated that bandits are not calling for the break up of Nigeria but are just carrying out their activities as a form of business. He said unlike IPOB which is led by Nnamdi Kanu, bandits have no centralised leadership. The governor said, “I was very happy (when Nnamdi Kanu was arrested) because, first he jumped bail, jeopardising his sureties. “Secondly, a person that challenges the sovereignty and the authority of a state and incites violence; he refers to his own country as a zoo. “This should be a message to all these separatists challenging the authority of the Nigerian State to be very careful.” Asked if Boko Haram and bandits should be treated with the same swiftness that led to Kanu’s arrest, El-Rufai said, “ No! No! No! No! People are comparing apples to oranges. “ N...

He said that the withdrawal of services would continue until otherwise directed by the congress. Also, while some schools were closed, others were open but only a few teachers, pupils and students were seen hanging around. Some of the schools visited were Local Education Authority Primary School, Mahuta, Milton College, a private school also at Mahuta, close...

Workers to Shut Airport, Train Station as Strike Begins in Kaduna

Barring any last-minute change of mind, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliate unions will on Monday embark on a five-day warning strike over the recent disengagement of civil servants by the state government. The planned move followed Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s announcement in April to disengage civil servants in the state, citing fiscal reasons. El-Rufai said a significant amount of the statutory federal allocations to the state is being spent on the wages of public servants. But the NLC has vowed to resist the action of the state government, accusing the governor of not being sensitive to the plight of the workers. Speaking in Kaduna on Sunday, the NLC Chairman in the state, Ayuba Suleiman, disclosed that the industrial action will be accompanied by a peaceful protest which will be led by the President of the Union, Ayuba Wabba and other labour leaders across the country. He explained that the strike which will involve grounding of all socio-economic activities in...
