There was panic in Imo State on Tuesday as gunmen burnt Orji Divisional Police Headquarters situated on Owerri- Okigwe Road in Owerri.  Security operatives made up of soldiers, policemen and Air Force are engaging the hoodlums. The situation caused panic in the area as two banks situated close to the scene hurriedly shut down. Businessmen ran away, vehicles diverted while motorists scampered for safety after running out of vehicles. Eyewitnesses explained that the gunmen attacked the police station after blocking the expressway with their vehicles. There were said to have told nearby traders not to panic. The police spokesperson in the state, Bala Elkana said that “ We are repelling them. The war is ongoing. There is heavy security operatives detachment to the scene. We have taken the way to them.   Two people have been feared dead after unidentified gunmen attacked a police station in Iwukem, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state.  It was also gathered that the gunmen also razed Ika police station. During the two attacks, different facilities, vehicles, and other valuables were destroyed by the gunmen. The incident comes four days after six persons — five officers and the wife of a policeman were killed following an attack on the divisional headquarters in the Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state. During the attack which took place on Saturday, vehicles were also set ablaze. Police facilities in at least five LGAs – Essien Udim, Ika, Ini, Ikono, and now Abak have been attacked so far in the state. There has been a spate of attacks on security agencies in the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones, which has compounded the security challenges in the two regions.
