Probe: Nigeria Will Break If We Release List Of Looters In NDDC — IMC

The Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has said that if it releases the list of those involved in looting the commission, the country will break. The IMC has also accused members of the National Assembly of plotting to stall the forensic audit ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Executive Director in charge of Projects at the NDDC, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, who made the allegation while speaking to Vanguard in Abuja, said that Nigeria would be shocked if the commission releases the names and calibre of persons involved in contract scam in 2017 and 2019 especially among members of the National Assembly.  Recall that the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday last week approved the forensic auditing of about 12 thousand NDDC contracts. Supreme Court Set To Deliver Judgement In Kogi Governorship Appeal

The Supreme Court will on Monday, deliver judgement in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, and its candidate in the Kogi Governorship Election, Musa Wada, challenging the election and victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Yahaya Bello as the Governor of Kogi State. Last week, A seven-man panel of the Supreme Court presided by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammed heard the appeal filed by Mr Wada and fixed August 31 to deliver judgement. Mr Wada who lost his appeal at the Election Petition Tribunal claimed that the Kogi election held on November 16, 2019, was riddled with serious electoral infractions, when he approached the Supreme Court after his petition was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on July 4th, 2020 with a split decision of two to one. Zamfara Governor Seeks Death Sentence For Reckless Driving

The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has promised to reintroduce serious punitive measures of death on reckless drivers in the state. The decision followed the death of 15 supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a road accident in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state. SERAP Sues Buhari Over ‘Failure To Publish Details Of N800bn Recovered Loot’

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari over failure to publish details of the N800bn recovered loot . In a statement issued on Sunday by SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the group wants the Federal Government to “disclose information and documents relating to the names of people from whom N800 billion in looted public funds have been recovered, specific dates of the recovery, and details of projects on which the money has been spent.” The group recalled that during the Democracy Day on June 12, President Buhari revealed that his administration has recovered looted funds more than N800billion which were being used for infrastructural projects. The Nigerian Ci vil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Thursday said the resumption of international flights has now been shifted to September 5 . The earlier date had been August 29. Director-General of the NCAA, Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, revealed the news during a Presidential Task Force COVID-19 briefing in Abuja. Edo Gets $75m World Bank Loan To Improve Education Sector

The World Bank has approved a $75 million loan to support the Edo State government’s effort at improving its education sector. Governor Godwin Obaseki disclosed this on Thursday during a visit to Usen in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of the state for his re-election campaign rally. The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has arrested 25 officials of Vehicle Inspection Office, Federal Road Safety Corp, Motor Vehicle Licensing Authority, and other persons in connection with driver license and vehicle particulars fraud in Lagos State. Nigerian Senate Demands Probe Of $18bn NLNG Dividend To NNPC

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris, has been directed by the Nigerian Senate to investigate the $18.32bn, which the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited claimed to have paid as dividend to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation between 2004 and 2020. Chairman, Senate Joint Committee on Finance and National Planning, Solomon Adeola, gave the directive at the ongoing stakeholders public hearing on the 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper. The Senate of the University of Lagos has filed a notice of discontinuance of a suit challenging the sack of Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as Vice-Chancellor of the institution. The notice of discontinuance dated August 24, 2020, was filed through the lawyer of the university’s senate, Professor Taiwo Osipitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). In the suit filed before the National Industrial Court, the university’s senate had kicked against Ogundipe’s sacking by the Governing Council of the institution and his subsequent replacement with Professor Theophilus Soyombo, as acting vice-chancellor. $500m Chinese loan already approved, probe unnecessary – Reps

The House of Representatives on Monday defended its decision to suspend activities of its standing and ad hoc committees, saying there was no hidden agenda. It also faulted its Committee on Treaties, Protocols and Agreements for investigating the $500m loan facility Nigeria recently secured from China, saying it had already been approved by the National Assembly and captured in the 2020 Appropriation Act. ASUU Strike Remains Untill Demands Are Met

  The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has vowed to continue the ongoing strike action until the Federal Government meets all its demands. The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Biodun Ogunyemi, who spoke at the University of Port Harcourt, weekend, during an interactive meeting with critical stakeholders, noted that the demands of ASUU were genuine and in the interest of the nation as it concerns implementation of 2012 universities needs assessment. Ogunyemi bemoaned that the Nigerian universities lecturers still receive the same salary scale of 2009 in 2020, noting that the sad reality must be addressed before ASUU would suspend the strike action. He said: “So what we are asking of the government are not baseless things, but those things that in 2012, the government conducted during a NEEDS Assessment survey and found out that there is widespread rot and decay in the university system, we are asking that the government implement its own report of 2012.”

Professor Akin Abayomi, current commissioner of health in lagos state was confirmed positive  of corona virus.
