 Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari secretly plans to visit Maiduguri, the capital of Borno this week. Borno is the epicentre of insurgency war in Nigeria.  A source in the Presidency said that the planned visit is deliberately kept a secret because it is believed that the President will attract protests in the troubled state.  Borno and adjoining states have been at the end of incessant deadly attacks by terrorist groups–Boko Haram and the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP), and many residents have grown frustrated with the Buhari government.  Ahead of his election in 2015, Buhari promised to defeat Boko Haram but six years into his government, that promise has not been fulfilled.   Residents angered by incessant abductions and bandit attacks have blocked the Gauraka Abuja-Kaduna Highway in the Tarfa Local Government Area of Niger State in protest. The irate youths in their numbers went on rampage as early as 6:00am on Monday and barricaded the busy road with bonfire, stones and wood, insisting that nobody will pass until the government addresses the issue of insecurity in the area. It was gathered that kidnappers have been operating in the community on a daily basis and abducted many residents. The residents are angered that bandits have been picking people up from house to house without any intervention by the security agents in the area. Despite the presence of the military barracks – Zuma Barracks– in the area the residents said they were helpless and cannot sleep well. The protesters prevented vehicles from passing on the road. The situation has led to heavy traffic congestion.

Nigerian Instagram comedian, Debo Adebayo, widely referred to as Mr Macaroni has shared the horrible experience he had after being arrested by the Nigerian Police Force on Saturday.  According to him,  they were beaten and stripped naked as if they were criminals. Mr Macaroni's words: " firstly, i want to thank everyone for effort they put into ensuring that we all were safely released. In honesty, it was a horrible experience. I went out not because I’m the only one who is brave enough to protest in Nigeria but because I knew other people would be there as well and also all we wanted was justice. At some point, I was scared because of the kind of utterances being made by the police officers that arrested us. I knew people would die. If words weren’t out there about our arrest, they would have killed all of us.
