Wake up to your responsibility — Catholic Archbishop tells Buhari govt

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama, has asked the President Muhammadu administration to wake up to its statutory responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians across the country. The wake-up call, according to him, became imperative following an alarm raised by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State that an unprecedented food shortage looms as a result of the persistent bandit attacks on farming communities. Kaigama stated this in a sermon at Sacred Heart Parish, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Sunday. The religious leader condemned the challenges posed by insecurity which has left several people poor in the country. He cautioned political leaders against the arrogant display of wealth and the paraphernalia of power. The Catholic prelate also called on the government to make conscious efforts to alleviate the people’s suffering. He said, “ Today that farmers cannot go to the farm for fear of bandits an...

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has urged residents to show appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari during his visit on Thursday. The governor in a statewide broadcast on Tuesday gave reasons the people of the state need to honour the President when he arrives in Maiduguri. Borno is the epicentre of insurgency war in Nigeria.  The state has been at the end of incessant deadly attacks by terrorist groups–Boko Haram and the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP), and many residents have grown frustrated with the Buhari government.  Ahead of his election in 2015, Buhari promised to defeat Boko Haram but six years into his government, that promise has not been fulfilled. In February 2020, residents of the state booed the President as his convoy drove in and when it was leaving Maiduguri, Borno State, during a condolence visit. Don't Sit Idle Expecting Me To Stop Killer Fulani Herdsmen In Your States, Buhari Tells Governors

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged governors to stop waiting for him to solve every problem for them, saying they should stop attacks by herdsmen in their states.  Many states have been experiencing deadly attacks on agrarian communities by Fulani herdsmen, putting pressure on the President as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces with the power to control the country's centralised security system.  Since he is Fulani, many Nigerians have also accused him of bias and lacking the political will to curb attacks by the nomadic herdsmen, who are also largely Fulani. But Buhari in an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, recalled two South-West governors  recently visited him to complain about encroachment by herdsmen on farmlands in their states.  Describing it as a threat to food security, Buhari said, “ You know these people more than I do, and you are democratically elected to protect your people. Don’t sit idly expecting me to do everything, take action."

Buhari’s Invitation To US Africa Command Headquarters Will Bring Recolonisation – Shehu Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for asking the United States to relocate Africa Command from Germany to the troubled area. The statement that was made available on his Twitter handle on Wednesday states: " The President’s call for world powers military HQ on African soil is an open invitation for recolonisation of Africa. It's easier to tell and get them to come and when they come, it’s impossible to tell and get them to go out. "Over six decades since independence, African countries should purposefully work together to confront & address their security challenges, while honorably seeking foreign technical assistance. The call for the US to relocate its USAfricaCommand HQ to Africa is unconscionable." He said with such a move, other foreign players will follow suit, leading to the military balkanisation of the continent. "Once the US relocates their HQ to Africa, Russia, China, Iran, Saudia, I...
