Shocking! Two-year-old boy shoots his parents after finding loaded handgun on bedside

It was reported that a toddler shot his mother and father after getting his hands on a loaded pistol lying on his parents’ bedside table.

The shocking incident occurred just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the family’s home in West Bath, Maine, according to police.

Sheriff Joel Merry of Sagadahoc County told local media that the two-year-old boy picked up the gun on the nightstand and shot his father in the head and his mother in the leg.

When the gun’s recoil hit him in the chest, he was also injured.

Thankfully, neither of the boy’s parents, who are 25 and 22, were seriously injured.

They and their son were taken to Mid Coast Hospital for treatment.

Sheriff Merry added the boy’s injury “was minor and, to my understanding, he was immediately released”.

The couple’s other son, a three-week-old newborn, happened to be in the room at the time but was not hurt. The baby is now being looked after by his grandmother, who lives in the same house but was not present at the time of the shooting.

"The question of how the boy was able to pick up and fire the weapon is of great concern and is being investigated,” Sheriff Merry said.

This situation, while disturbing, could have had an even more tragic ending." He added.

“We are thankful that the injuries were not more serious.”

The weapon has been identified by the police as a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

The Sagadahoc County District Attorney’s Office is meanwhile investigating the incident with the local police.

None of the people involved in the accidental shooting have been identified.

Sheriff Merry said even though such incidents are rare, “they should be taken as a warning to the public to ensure firearms are kept in a locked, secure location out of reach of childrenI. In the 12 years I’ve been sheriff, we’ve never had a situation like this. Ifyou have children, you really should be securing any firearm in a locked closet or cabinet or have a trigger lock.”

As many as one in three American homes with children keep guns in the house., according to the Centre for Violence Prevention at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

EndSARS: Protesters In New York Want SARS Operatives Sacked

Hundreds of young anti-SARS protesters on Sunday stormed the Nigeria House in New York demanding transparency in the disbandment of the police unit back home. The protesters said operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad found wanting should be sacked and not redeployed. Among them was Stephen “Papi” Ojo, the artist, model, and choreographer who stole the show as the ‘blue-guy’ in Beyoncé’s “Already” music video. The protest started shortly after the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, announced the dissolution of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad. Adamu also announced plans for a new arrangement to address anticipated policing gaps following the disbandment, and the constitution of an investigative team to probe the alleged cases of rights violations, among others. But the protesters, who bore placards with different inscriptions including, “We no want audio ban”, said they were not buying it. They argued that previous commitments announced by the force to change...

Biden Announces Purchase Of 200M Vaccine Doses

President Joe Biden announced a series of measures on Tuesday aimed at ramping up coronavirus vaccine allocation and distribution, including the purchase of 200 million more vaccine doses and increased distribution to states by millions of doses next week. With those additional doses, Biden said there would be enough to fully vaccinate 300 million Americans -- nearly the entire US population -- by the end of summer or early fall. He described efforts to combat Covid-19 as a "wartime undertaking." We now have a national strategy to beat Covid-19. It's comprehensive. It's based on science, not politics. It's based on truth, not denial, and it is detailed," he said. As part of the new efforts announced Tuesday, the US will buy 100 million more doses from Pfizer/BioNTech and 100 million more from Moderna -- the two-dose vaccines that have been granted emergency use authorization by the US Food and Drug Administration. Pfizer and Moderna are working to step up p...
